Arsenal have confirmed that Nicolas Pepe has returned to full fitness ahead of the side’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Pepe suffered bruising to his knee after being scythed down by West Ham defender Aaron Creswell in the first half of Arsenal’s 3-1 win at the London Stadium last weekend.

The Ivorian forward played through the pain and scored his first goal from open play with a brilliant strike in the 66th minute before being replaced by Reiss Nelson at the death.

However, Pepe was unavailable as Arsenal drew with Standard Liege on Thursday evening and there were fears he could miss this weekend’s much-anticipated meeting with Pep Guardiola’s champions.

But it appears Pepe is back in contention for a place in Freddie Ljungberg’s starting XI after the Gunners provided a positive update on their website on Saturday afternoon.

‘Nicolas Pepe – Available for selection for Manchester City (h) after bruising to left knee sustained during West Ham United,’ it said.

Granit Xhaka (concussion) will miss out at the Emirates, along with Dani Ceballos (hamstring), Hector Bellerin (hamstring), Rob Holding (knee) and Kieran Tierney (shoulder).

City stars John Stones and Sergio Aguero will miss Sunday’s clash and Guardiola has revealed that David Silva is also a doubt.

Asked about Stones’ fitness at his Friday press conference, Guardiola replied: ‘He’s injured, I don’t know when he’s back. Sergio is out as well, he’s still not training.’

On Silva, he added: ‘He’s not fit now, but maybe tomorrow he will train and we’ll see.

‘He had a kick on his leg, it’s not painful.’

Guardiola is wary of the strong connection Arsenal interim head coach Ljungberg has with the club’s supporters ahead of City’s trip to the Emirates.

‘It was a position after Unai Emery situation, he’s a person who stayed a long time at Arsenal,’ he said.

‘He knows the feelings of the club and the fans, how they like to play.

‘We watched the games with Unai and the games with Ljungberg and try to figure out what they will do against us.’
