Freddie Ljungberg hailed Bukayo Saka’s heroics against Standard Liege, but admitted the youngster was annoyed with him before kick-off.

Saka rescued a draw for a young Arsenal side against Standard in their final Europa League group game, setting up Alexandre Lacazette before scoring the equaliser himself.

Arsenal were 2-0 down and heading for another humiliating defeat before Saka and Gabriel Martinelli stepped up to salvage a point.

Asked about how he rated Saka’s performance, Ljungberg said: ‘He was amazing.

‘He was a bit upset with me before the game that he had to play wing-back and full-back.

‘He’s a tremendous talent. His final ball & last bit is always effective.’

Saka, 18, was starting his first game under Ljungberg and will now be pushing to be included in Arsenal’s Premier League sides.

The left winger has started four league games this season, but has managed just 12 minutes since Ljungberg took temporary charge.

The result meant Arsenal finished top of their group and ensured they would be top seeds in the last-32 draw.

‘It’s very, very good. We started the group really well and had some problems,’ Ljungberg said of topping the group.

‘We played a lot of games lately, I wanted to give the young ones a chance but I needed to rotate.

‘We have a game again on Sunday.

‘Of course it was a small gamble but I believe in those young players and they pulled through and we’re top of the group.’
