Manchester City duo John Stones and Sergio Aguero will miss this weekend’s clash with Arsenal, but Pep Guardiola is hopeful David Silva will be available at the Emirates.

Stones, 25, hobbled out of City’s defeat to Manchester United in the second half and subsequently played no part in the side’s Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb in midweek.

Aguero, meanwhile, has been out of action with a thigh problem since the end of November and the 31-year-old forward is yet to rejoin his team-mates in training.

Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane, who are both sidelined with knee injuries, are expected to return in February.

Asked about Stones’ fitness at his Friday press conference, Guardiola replied: ‘He’s injured, I don’t know when he’s back. Sergio is out as well, he’s still not training.’

David Silva suffered a knock in the second half of City’s loss to United and the midfielder has been unable to train over the last couple of days.

However, Guardiola is hopeful that his compatriot will return to full fitness in time for Sunday’s clash.

‘He’s not fit now, but maybe tomorrow he will train and we’ll see,’ Guardiola said.

‘He had a kick on his leg, it’s not painful.’

Guardiola is wary of the strong connection Freddie Ljungberg has with Arsenal fans ahead of City’s trip to the Emirates.

‘It was a position after Unai Emery situation, he’s a person who stayed a long time at Arsenal,’ the Spaniard said.

‘He knows the feelings of the club and the fans, how they like to play.

‘We watched the games with Unai and the games with Ljungberg and try to figure out what they will do against us.’
