Burnley have trolled Mikel Arteta after he criticised the pitch at Turf Moor following Arsenal’s goalless draw on Sunday.

The Gunners failed to find a way past Sean Dyche’s side as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed two excellent chances to put the visitors in front.

After the match, Arteta blamed the length of the grass as a reason why Arsenal struggled to find their rhythm and said Burnley’s surface was ‘not a very helpful thing’ for his side.

‘The conditions were difficult,’ said the Arsenal manager.

‘The grass was long, they didn’t put any water on it. Obviously, that’s not a very helpful thing to play football.’

But Burnley have now aimed a light-hearted dig at Arteta on social media as they changed the header on their Twitter account to an image of an unkempt pitch.

The Clarets also posted ‘pitch-side angle’ footage of the game and included a clip of Mesut Ozil being dispossessed by Charlie Taylor.

Meanwhile, Dyche hit out at Arsenal’s players for ‘falling over’ during the game.

‘It is lovely to watch when people are falling over, it is my favourite part,’ said the Burnley boss.

‘The game is in a fantastic state. No-one wants to address it apart from me, so I am absolutely happy with the state of the game.’
