Ian Wright hails Mikel Arteta for resurrecting Shkodran Mustafi’s Arsenal career

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has heaped praise on Gunners boss Mikel Arteta for saving Shkodran Mustafi’s career at the club.

The German found himself out of favour under Unai Emery and he’s taken huge swathes of criticism at the Emirates since his £35m move from Valencia in 2016.

The 27-year-old was free to leave the club last summer but Arsenal failed to find a buyer and he didn’t appear to be the perfect fit for Arteta’s style of play.

However, the German’s been a mainstay in the starting XI and has formed a strong partnership with David Luiz in recent weeks.

And Wright believes it is down to Arteta’s man management and focus on tactics.

‘Mustafi is playing fantastic now,’ Wright told Premier League productions.

‘It wasn’t long ago that after the Chelsea game I thought he was someone they had to move on.

‘It seems like he’s [Arteta] getting a tune out of him now.

‘He’s become one of our most solid players.’

Arsenal’s 3-2 win against Everton was their third win in seven days and they’re now unbeaten in their ten matches in 2020.

Wright believes that Arteta’s tactics are starting to get through to the squad.

‘We’re starting to see a pattern of play from Arsenal that they’re very resilient.

‘Three games in a week, conceded early, conceded a goal late, and still came back with the determination and the spirit to win that game.

‘That’s what Arsenal need to do now, and they’re on the right track.

‘It’s really great to see.’
