Arsenal have expressed interest in signing former Manchester United defender Daley Blind from Ajax, according to reports.

Netherlands international Blind spent four years at Old Trafford, playing over 140 games for the Red Devils and helping the club win the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Blind left Manchester United two years ago and has become a key player for Ajax, making 31 appearances for the Dutch leaders this season.

Despite his influence at Ajax, Blind is expected to leave his boyhood club this summer along with the likes of Andre Onana, Nicolas Tagliafico and Donny van de Beek.

Morocco international Hakim Ziyech has already secured a move away from the Johan Cruyff Arena, agreeing to join Chelsea in a £36.6million transfer last week.

Blind, who turns 30 in March, is attracting substantial interest ahead of the summer, with a number of English and Italian clubs weighing up moves.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are among those to have expressed interest in securing a deal, with Mikel Arteta still keen to bolster his defensive options.

The new Gunners boss signed Pablo Mari from Flamengo and Cedric Soares from Southampton last month but Arsenal could look to sign Blind if either of the two new additions fail to impress.

Speaking last week, Arteta confirmed Arsenal were already making plans for the summer transfer window.

He said: ‘I wanted to get in a few days’ rest because the players have been through a lot of things in the past few months.

‘After that I wanted to reflect on what we’ve done together in the past five or six weeks, where we’ve improved and where we can be positive, and the things we need to improve.

‘It went really well and we set some targets. We’re starting to work on them and hopefully we can see the outcome of them in the next few weeks.’

Arsenal thrashed Newcastle United 4-0 on Sunday but remain just tenth in the Premier League, seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
