Mikel Arteta was clearly impressed with Mesut Ozil’s goal against Newcastle as cameras picked up his superb reaction.

Arsenal thrashed Newcastle 4-0 at the Emirates with a flurry of goals coming in the final ten minutes.

Ozil grabbed Arsenal’s third in the 90th minute by finishing off a flowing move – his first goal for Arsenal in ten months.

Arteta has repeatedly praised the efforts of Ozil since taking charge at Arsenal after the German struggled for consistency under previous manager Unai Emery.

The Arsenal boss was left swooning over Ozil’s finish, as TV cameras switched to the touchline after the goal.

Ozil himself was buzzing after the game, saying on Twitter: ‘Great team win for the Arsenal. We showed why we’re definitely on the right path.’

The playmaker wasn’t the only Arsenal player to find their groove against Newcastle, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring his first goal since December and Dani Ceballos impressing in his first league start under Arteta.

Bukayo Saka, 18, also stood out in the game and Arteta was full of praise for his resurgent stars.

‘The message is clear. Whoever trains like they do and has the abilities to play like he did has a chance to play,’ Arteta explained.

‘Laca has been playing all the games and hasn’t scored. I told him the decision and he accepted it. I told him he would come on and score, he did and I’m so pleased.

‘Bukayo Saka is doing really well,’ he added. ‘He keeps his head down and wants to learn. He’s performing like a senior player.

‘Dani Ceballos is a good example. He was injured and when he started to train I didn’t think he was fit enough.

‘He completely changed his behaviour and trained like an animal. I thought he was the best player on the pitch.’
