Santi Cazorla says his former Arsenal teammate Mikel Arteta’s leadership skills make him the perfect candidate to manage the club.

The Ex-Manchester City coach has impressed in his first ten games in charge of his old side, remaining unbeaten so far in 2020.

Spaniards Cazorla and Arteta lifted two FA Cups together during their spells in north London, and the Villarreal midfielder admits he saw early signs of a top manager from their playing days.

He told BBC Sport: ‘Arteta deserves to the boss. He was always a leader in the dressing room.

‘It was the right decision to put him in as manager; it made sense and he has everything you need for the job.

‘I hope he takes Arsenal up the table.’

According to Football.London, Cazorla may return to the Emirates Stadium for one final send-off before the 35-year-old hangs up his boots.

However, the Spain international admits he is yet to make up his mind about his retirement plans.

He added: ‘If I’m honest I don’t know if I will coach.

‘I am undecided what I want to do when I retire. Being a sporting director appeals to me more than coaching but I want to be involved in the game, whatever feels right for me at the time.

‘I have no plans in the short term to go anywhere or play abroad but I would never shut those doors. I am focused on ending the season with Villarreal.’
