Arsenal are battling Tottenham to sign Brazilian forward Willian from Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to reports.

Willian has been a mainstay in Chelsea’s team since signing from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013, playing over 300 games for the Blues.

The 31-year-old has won two Premier League titles, the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup at Stamford Bridge and went past 50 goals for the club last season.

Willian, who has made 37 appearances under Blues boss Frank Lampard this term, will be out of contract at the end of the season.

Chelsea are ready to hand the Brazilian a new two-year deal but Willian is holding out for a three-year contract and the situation has alerted a number of other clubs, according to Telegraph Sport.

Mikel Arteta will hope to bolster his Arsenal squad this summer and the Gunners have signed Petr Cech and David Luiz from London rivals Chelsea over the past few years.

Spurs are also interested in securing his signature, however, with Jose Mourinho a known admirer of a player he worked with while he was in charge of Chelsea.

German giants Bayern Munich have also expressed interest in signing Willian but the forward is said to be keen on staying in London.

Speaking last month, Willian admitted he could leave Chelsea this summer, saying: ‘They have offered me two years, and they are not going to change what they offered.

‘I said I wanted three more years. The situation is difficult because of this, I really don’t know if it will be possible.’
