Ian Wright has revealed the biggest positive from Chelsea’s FA Cup victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening as they suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

Liverpool are set to end their long wait for a Premier League title but were knocked out of the FA Cup by an impressive Chelsea side, who scored through Willian and Everton fan Ross Barkley.

Chelsea record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga returned to the side against Liverpool, having been dropped last month, and his solid performance was the biggest positive for Frank Lampard, according to Wright.

Asked whether Kepa’s return and the Blues’ clean sheet was the ‘most encouraging’ aspect for Lampard, Wright said: ‘Without doubt.

‘You heard the players saying “the clean sheet is one of the most important things” so you can almost feel that that’s what Frank Lampard has been talking about in the background.’

Former Chelsea and Liverpool defender Glen Johnson added on Kepa: ‘I think he has [cemented his place back in the team]. He’s been out of the cold for a few weeks but today he played well.

‘Most of the chances he should be saving anyway but the way he commanded the defence – you could see him shouting and pointing at players throughout – impressed me.’

Premier League legend Alan Shearer, meanwhile, urged Chelsea to use their solid defensive performance as a springboard in the league.

‘They have to use this win as a positive for the Premier League as well,’ Shearer said.

‘They had to work so hard defensively and they kept their clean sheet as well as threatening up top.

‘That’s been missing so they have to put a run of these kind of performances together.’

Chelsea teenage midfielder Billy Gilmour was named Man of the Match against Liverpool and Jermaine Jenas described his performance as ‘brilliant’.

‘There have been a lot of good performances but I have been so impressed by this young lad,’ Jenas said.

‘He’s had such a calm head and he’s not given the ball away all night. It’s been a brilliant evening for him.’

Chelsea face Everton on Sunday while Liverpool return to action on Saturday with a home match against Bournemouth.
