Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Ashley Cole was victim of an attack in his home at the hands of masked robbers, according to reports.

The 39-year-old was at his home in Surrey on the evening on 21 January when a gang wearing balaclavas broke into the house and stole high value jewellery.

Neither Cole nor the police have confirmed that it was the former England international who was attacked, and it was not reported at the time, but a source told the Sun: ‘It was a terrifying experience.

‘The robbers sounded very professional and knew exactly what they were doing.

‘They must have deliberately targeted Ashley and cased the place in advance.’

Cole escaped from the horrific experience unharmed, but was said to be ‘extremely shaken’.

Surrey Police said: ‘Our investigation remains ongoing following an aggravated burglary in Fetcham on 21 January.

‘Burglars broke into the property through the rear doors around 9.45pm.

‘The suspects searched the property, before escaping with a quantity of jewellery. They were described as wearing camouflage clothing, gloves and balaclavas.

‘An investigation is under way and enquiries remain ongoing.’

Cole brought his playing career to an end at the close of last season after a short stint with Derby County and has taken up a coaching role at Chelsea.

The 39-year-old, who won 107 caps for England, is now coaching the Blues’ Under-15 side.
