Gary Neville has revealed that Ryan Giggs’ iconic solo strike against Arsenal back in 1999 is his favourite ever Manchester United goal and still gives him ‘goosebumps’ to this day.

David Beckham gave United the advantage in the FA Cup semi-final replay with a stunning strike from outside the box before Dennis Bergkamp found the net with a long-range effort of his own to take the game to extra-time.

The thrilling Villa Park clash looked set for a dreaded penalty shootout but second-half substitute Giggs had other ideas after a wayward pass from Patrick Vieira in the middle of the park.

Giggs jinked his way around several Arsenal defenders before beating David Seaman with a thunderous shot to send Sir Alex Ferguson’s men into the final where they would go on to defeat Newcastle and, subsequently, win the treble.

Neville still gets emotional looking back at the Welshman’s goal and lists it as his favourite in United history, closely followed by Beckham’s effort against Wimbledon and Cristiano Ronaldo’s towering header away to Roma.

Asked to reveal his favourite ever United goal, Neville told OBI Property: ‘Do you know something? The David Beckham one from the halfway line was an unbelievable goal.

‘The Cristiano header at Roma away is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. The leap from the edge of the box and heading it on the penalty spot.

‘I think the Giggsy goal, though, in that semi-final is probably the one that to this day still gives me goosebumps. That goal in that match.’

Earlier this week, Neville reflected on his heated battles with Arsenal in the early 2000s and revealed how United would always try to ‘wind up’ Thierry Henry and Robert Pires in the Premier League.

‘I would try and wind up other players if I could and get an influence over them,’ the former England right-back told Sky Sports.

‘When you’re playing against Robert Pires and Thierry Henry for Arsenal, we would try and wind them up and do things that would influence them.

‘We would try to take their minds of the game and niggle at them.’

Neville added: ‘I don’t think I could get wound up too much but I got played once.

‘I got sent off in a Manchester derby for putting my head towards Steve McManaman.

‘But when you look at the replays there was was a Liverpool thing going on because it was McManaman, [Joey] Barton and [Robbie] Fowler all going at me.

‘I definitely got played that game but it was a bit of a one-off I think.
