Ian Wright admits he feels anxious every time Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang performs his trademark goal celebration.

The Gabon international has scored 61 times in all competitions for Arsenal since his club-record £56million move in January 2018 with each goal usually followed by a dexterous forward flip.

Wright, who was no stranger to exuberant goal celebrations during his playing career at Highbury, in conversation with Aubameyang and his current striker Alexandre Lacazette admitted he holds his breath every time Arsenal’s current captain performs his routine.

‘I’m always worried about that one (the flip), he said. ‘I like the panther man, but every time you stop, anyone who I see do this one (the flip) that worries me man.

‘If I was your manager I’d say you can’t do this, because if you get that wrong and land.’

Explaining why he is unlikely to heed Wright’s warning, Aubameyang replied: ‘I feel so free, no (I can’t stop that).  I’ve been doing it too many years now. I practiced at home first on the sofa on my bed.’

How much longer Arsenal fans get to watch Aubameyang strutting his stuff remains a matter of intense speculation with the 30-year-old no closer to having his future resolved with just over a year remaining on his current deal.

With Mikel Arteta’s side unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United have been credited with an interest in the former Borussia Dortmund striker.

Speaking recently about his top marksmen, Arteta said: ‘The club has a very clear idea of how he wants to develop things.

‘They are in constant communication with players’ agents and they know the plan better than I do. I completely trust them on that.’
