Juventus are prepared to rival Arsenal for the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international has emerged as a key component of Diego Simeone’s combative side but is at loggerheads with his club over a new contract.

Partey has already rejected one offer from the Spanish club and his current deal still includes a £47million release clause. Arsenal have been heavily reliant on the likes of Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi in central midfield this season and Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster that area of his squad.

Juventus acquired Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey on free transfers last summer but neither player has fully adjusted to the demands of Maurizio Sarri’s style, while the former Chelsea manager dispensed with Emre Can in January and is on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

According to Marca, the Serie A leaders are said to be leading the race for the 26-year-old, although his priority remains to secure a new contract and remain with Atletico.

Earlier this week Partey’s father claimed negotiations with Arsenal had already commenced and encouraged his son to seek a new club, but his agent subsequently moved to play down those reports.

A statement from JJS Sports, shared by Partey on Instagram, read: ‘Quick Note !!! In the midst of transfer period, a lot of stories are created, manufactured and also alleged until the final day of the transfer period.

‘Mostly adds up to the hype and promotion of the beautiful game . ‘Father of Thomas Partey might have said something but can we also put everything aside and respect the official communication from his management JJS Sports.

‘At this period a lot of persons(some media personel) in search of exclusive stories would want to pounce on conversations around just to suit their agenda.

‘The fact is that, any statement heard was an opinion clearly misinterpreted to suit a particular agenda. There has been nothing officially communicated or no such conversations between the player and anybody.

‘There is absolutely no truth in what the player’s dad was alleged to have said.’
