Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has urged Dayot Upamecano to ‘take his time’ with a decision on his future amid rumours the defender could be on his way to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

Upamecano has earned a reputation as one of the finest centre-backs in Germany since joining Leizpig back in 2017 and Arsenal are battling it out with Tottenham and Barcelona for the 21-year-old’s signature.

It’s understood Upamecano has told Leipzig about his intentions to leave the club at the end of the season and the Bundesliga outfit are ready to listen to offers over the coming weeks and months for their prized possession.

However, Krosche is holding out hope that Upamecano could still be at Leipzig next season and has told the Frenchman to think long and hard before agreeing to move on.

‘This is a far-reaching decision for a player. He should take his time with that,’ the Leizpig chief told German publication Kicker.

‘He has to be clear about exactly what he is going to do, how he sees his future.

‘Maybe that has changed a bit as a result of the new situation [coronavirus].’

Last month, Upamecano insisted he was fully focussed on Leipzig but revealed that he would sit down and discuss his future at the end of the campaign.

‘I feel very good at RB Leipzig. I like my team-mates, the staff and my club,’ the young centre-half told French outlet Foot Mercato.

‘For the moment, I am still under contract until 2021. I am going to have to continue to train well and play matches.

‘Even though I know that there are clubs that want me, that is certain, I am keeping my feet on the ground.’

‘We will discuss my future at the end of the season with my agents and my family.’
