Lucas Torreira will not ‘force’ a move away from Arsenal this summer and will leave the club to decide his future.

The Uruguayan came close to leaving the Emirates last summer as AC Milan submitted two bids for the midfielder.

Torreira signed for the Gunners in a £26m deal from Sampdoria and he admitted in 2019 that he missed life in Italy as he criticised the weather in the UK.

Unai Emery was happy for Torreira to leave and the midfielder hasn’t featured as much as he would like under Mikel Arteta.

Milan remain interested in Torreira but the coronavirus pandemic is set to have grave effects on club finances across the globe and they will not spend around £42m on the midfielder.

However, Torreira is in no rush to leave Arsenal and will not force an exit this summer according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

‘AC Milan wanted to sign Lucas Torreira last summer. He has never wanted to force a move to go back to Italy,’ said Di Marzio.

‘He only listened to Milan’s proposal, but Arsenal immediately said he was not in the market and that they didn’t want to sell him.

‘I don’t think Milan will spend €40m or €50m on Torreira to bring him back. I also don’t feel Torreira wants to come back to Italy just yet.

‘He is very good player, so some offers may arrive for him and even then Arsenal will still decide what they want to do.’

Arsenal are set for a difficult summer as Mikel Arteta was already predicting a problematic window before the coronavirus crisis forced the league season into suspension.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could leave the club as the Gabon international has intimated he will not sign an extension to his current deal, which expires in 14 months’ time.

Arsenal are desperate to keep the forward but reports suggest they will listen to offers in the region of £30m should he make clear he will leave the club for free if he’s not sold the following summer.

The Gunners are interested in Chelsea ace Willian, who is out of contract this summer.

However, the 31-year-old Brazilian wants a three-year deal on wages of £120,000-a-week.
