The representatives of Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey have denied their client is in talks to join Arsenal after the Ghanian’s father claimed negotiations were underway over a move to the Emirates.

On Tuesday, Jacob Partey claimed he had spoken to his son and had it confirmed that the Gunners were in talks to sign the Ghanian.

‘I called my son after hearing the rumours and he told me that the rumours are true,’ Jacob Partey, who was speaking in Ghana, told Tru FM’s ‘Sports World Show’.

‘He told me they are holding talks between him and Arsenal. It all depends on the offer Atletico are demanding. If he goes to Arsenal fine, they have a lot supporters in Ghana.

‘I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they are discussing now is how Atletico will release him.’

Partey has been heavily linked with a move to north London and his contract includes an affordable £43.5m release clause, which Arsenal are willing to meet.

However, Partey’s representatives have issued a strong denial of the claims,

‘It’s totally untrue,’ JJSports, Partey’s representatives, said of the reported Arsenal negotiations.

Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his midfield but the Arsenal boss is unsure what his summer budget will be due to the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Even before the financial impact of the pandemic, Arteta had been forced to devise three separate summer plans as it’s unclear if Arsenal will spend another season without Champions League football.

Arteta may therefore be forced to sell before he can buy and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the 30-year-old Gabon international, could fetch around £50m in the transfer market.

The club captain has just 14 months to run on his existing deal at the club and has intimated that he will not sign a new one.
