Patrice Evra has revealed that he was convinced Manchester United would beat Arsenal after one of Arsene Wenger’s players asked to swap shirts before the first half had even finished.

The former United left-back has named the Gunners as the team he enjoyed beating the most during his time in the Premier League.

And Evra also claims that before one game against Arsenal, he spent reassuring Robin van Persie that they would ‘easily’ beat Wenger’s side.

The 38-year-old also described Arsenal as his ‘lucky team’ to play against and admits he was always extremely confident of getting a result against the Gunners.

Asked to name the team he most enjoyed beating, Evra told United’s UTD Podcast: ‘Oh, Arsenal.

‘So I will tell you my philosophy… Manchester City… winning against Manchester City was like winning against a neighbour. They’re making noise, you just win and it’s okay.

‘Winning against Chelsea, it was like you’re going to win the league. Because I think Chelsea was the only team looking exactly like us.

‘I mean like personality, characters, strength, powerful, speed. I will say Chelsea.

‘And when I was winning the best feeling was against Liverpool at Anfield.

‘But the worst feeling is when you lose at Anfield. When you lose at Anfield I swear you feel like someone died for at least two weeks. The manager doesn’t speak to you anywhere, when you lost at Anfield Ferguson would pass you for three days and I wasn’t sure if I would get a ‘hi’ or a ‘are you okay?’.

‘Arsenal… people think I was arrogant with Arsenal, it was like your lucky team when you know you’re going to play your best game.

‘I remember when Van Persie came he said: ‘Patrice, come on, you have to motivate everyone, it’s an important game.’

‘I was like, ‘Robin, don’t worry, those are my kids, we’re going to win easy’ and we won.

‘You remember, I think it was after the Champions League [in 2009], I made that comment when we won 3-1 at the Emirates.

‘Remember when we scored that great goal in counter-attack with Ji-sung Park, [Wayne] Rooney and [Cristiano] Ronaldo, and the French journalists after the game were really like: ‘Oh, the result doesn’t reflect the philosophy of the game.’

‘I was like: ‘Are you serious? I just feel like today was 11 men and against 11 babies.’

‘After that it was in the paper: ‘Patrice is calling Arsenal babies!’

‘But it’s just the feeling… I respect so much this club, I don’t want to disrespect this club, but it was just my feeling when I played against them – I know I’m going to win.

‘I’ll be honest with you, I played against this player, and after 34 minutes they were asking: ‘Patrice, can we swap shirts at half-time?’ So I was like: I’ve already won the game.’
