Barcelona legend Xavi has hailed the qualities of Premier League superstars Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but fears both would flop at Camp Nou were they to join the Catalan giants once the transfer window reopens.

The Arsenal and Liverpool forwards shared the Premier League Golden Boot last season along with Mohamed Salah and have enjoyed similarly prolific seasons this term.

Aubameyang has just over a year left remaining on his current contract and has been linked with both Barcelona and their La Liga rivals Real Madrid. Mane, meanwhile, remains an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side that stands on the brink of winning a first ever Premier League title.

Klopp, however, is already making plans to rejuvenate his forward line this summer having earmarke Timo Werner as a primary target. And while Mane remains content at Anfield, both Spanish giants have been credited with harbouring long-standing interest.

Xavi, who won three Champions League titles during his trophy-laden playing career at Barcelona, believes both players would struggle to adapt to they style of Quique Seitin’s side.

He said: ‘Mane and Aubemayang can kill you in open space. But Barcelona need players who know how to move in small spaces.

‘I am thinking about player who would adapt to Barcelona and it’s not easy to find one. Samuel Eto’o was perfect as is Luis Suarez right now.’

Werner and Lionel Messi’s Argentina international teammate Lautaro Martinez are also on Barcelona’s transfer radar, but Xavi would love to see Neymar return three years on from his world record move to PSG.

He added: ‘Football-wise, he is among the three or five best in the world. I hope that he returns to Barcelona. He was his teammate. He would add a lot.

‘A positive character. It would be an extraordinary signing to become a difference-maker.’
