Arsenal’s highly-rated academy star Folarin Balogun has reportedly decided to leave the Emirates this summer after failing to agree a new contract with the club.

Mikel Arteta has gifted plenty of opportunities to the talented youngsters at his disposal this season, including Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock.

However, despite boasting an excellent goal scoring record at youth level, Balogun is yet to make his first-team debut for the Gunners.

With the 18-year-old’s contract due to expire next summer, the north London club have been attempting to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

But, according to The Athletic, given his limited involvement with the senior squad, Balogun has now made up his mind to move on.

The report states that Arsenal will consider acceptable offers for the youngster in the next transfer window, rather than let him go for free in 12 months.

The Gunners rejected a £5 million offer from Brentford for the 18-year-old in January, while he has also attracted interest from a number of Europe’s top clubs.

Mikel Arteta singled out academy product Eddie Nketiah for praise after a youthful Arsenal side progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United on Sunday.

The 21-year-old came on as a substitute for Alexandre Lacazette in the second half and when asked about the performance of his youngsters, the Spaniard highlighted the fighting spirit of Nketiah.

‘They are evolving and they are really willing and they have a lot of personality to play,’ Arteta said.

‘You can see the way they played today and Eddie as well, the way he came on and how he fights with everybody, he doesn’t care, so I really like that.’
