Arsenal are yet to open contract talks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and have not offered the Gabon international an extension to his current deal, according to ESPN.

The 30-year-old has around 13 months to run on his existing deal at the Emirates and reports on Monday morning in France suggested Arsenal had offered him an extension to ward off interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Chelsea.

However, ESPN claim a deal is not on the table and perhaps more worryingly for Arsenal fans, that discussions over a new deal have not even started.

Aubameyang was made club captain following Unai Emery’s decision to strip Granit Xhaka of the armband in 2019 but that move appears to have had little influence on the forward’s desire to stay at the club.

The former Dortmund ace is desperate to play Champions League football and has not done so since his £57m move from the Bundesliga giants in 2018.

However, Aubameyang turns 31 later this month and with Arsenal looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, he faces the prospect of another year outside of Euope’s elite competition by staying at the club.

Arsenal now find themselves in a difficult position as they’re desperate to keep the forward but are unwilling to let him leave on a free in 2021.

Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie have all either left for free or for cut-price figures in recent years dues to Arsenal’s inability to get them to sign new deals.

Chelsea, Barcelona and PSG have all registered interest in Aubameyang and Arsenal’s preference would be to sell abroad should they be forced into a decision to offload their star man.

However, Aubameyang is believed to be happy in London and a move across the capital to rivals Chelsea cannot be ruled out.
