Louis Saha has advised Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to follow the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Robin van Persie in leaving Arsenal and signing for Manchester United.

The prolific Arsenal striker has little over a year remaining on his current and with hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season up in smoke following consecutive defeats, the chances of him committing his future to the north London club appear remote.

The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring the former Borussia Dortmund star’s situation, while Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Manchester United have also been credited with an interest.

Speaking about his situation earlier this month, Aubameyang said: ‘I haven’t recently received a proposition but of course there have been discussions with the club.

‘It’s them [the club] who have the keys and for them to do their work. Afterwards we will see what happens. It is a turning point in my career. I have been very frank with everyone. It will be of course a very difficult decision to make. It is possibly the most important decision of my career. But so far nothing has been decided.’

Jadon Sancho remains United’s No.1 priority transfer target this summer, but a new striker is also on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wanted list with Odion Ighalo set to return to the Chinese Super League at the end of his loan spell.

United won their most recent Premier League title the year they signed Van Persie from the Gunners and Saha believes Aubameyang could have a similar impact at Old Trafford.

He told compare.bet: ‘Arsenal fans may not like this, but I’d like him to join United, I’d be very happy with that [laughter]. I’m sure Arsenal fans would not take that well, but that’s my advice to Auba.’

Arsenal legend Martin Keown, meanwhile suggested Mikel Arteta should strip Aubameyang of the captaincy until he signs a new deal but Saha believes that would be foolish decision and sympathises with the predicament last season’s Golden Boot winner finds himself in.

He added: ‘No, but I don’t think it’s a nice position to be in as a player. You want to sort out your contract and just focus on your football as these situations are always difficult to deal with.

‘Me, I would always feel it’s up to the player, and if the manager or the board thinks otherwise it’s always going to be a difficult situation, especially if you have other people talking in the press, even if you’re quiet but have others speaking instead of you like an agent or family member, it’s tough.

‘My advice would be to try and focus on the game, keep training hard, and be professional. But you get 15 years in a career if you’re lucky, you have to make your choices and nobody can stop you from thinking certain ways. At the end of the day when you don’t play well the club deposes of you, it goes both ways.’
