Matteo Guendouzi is facing a ban after sparking a brawl with Neal Maupay moments after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

The Gunners took the lead in the second half through Nicolas Pepe but late goals from Lewis Dunk and Maupay snatched victory for Brighton.

In the first half, Maupay’s challenge on Bernd Leno led to the Arsenal goalkeeper landing awkwardly on his right leg.

Leno, who was forced to leave the pitch on a stretcher, angrily confronted Maupay and appeared to blame the Brighton striker for the incident.

After Maupay scored Brighton’s winner in the 95th minute, Guendouzi threw an arm into the striker’s stomach as he ran past him.

And after the full-time whistle, Guendouzi confronted the Brighton striker once again as he grabbed him by the neck.

Guendouzi needed to be restrained by a member of Arsenal’s backroom staff as both teams left the pitch.

After Brighton’s victory, Maupay slammed the conduct of Arsenal’s players and said Mikel Arteta’s side ‘need to learn humility’.

‘At half-time I went to their manager Mikel Arteta to apologise because I have never meant to injure their goalkeeper,’ said Maupay.

‘I just went to get the ball maybe he landed just twisted his knee. I apologised to their team and him.

‘I’ve been through a bad injury so I know it’s hard but I never meant to hurt him.

‘But some Arsenal players need to learn humility some times because they been talking a lot and second half when they were 1-0 up and they got what they deserved.’

Guendouzi is now likely to face action from the Football Association following his clash with Maupay.
