Shkodran Mustafi has opened the door to a potential Arsenal exit, admitting that the Bundesliga is an ‘interesting’ option for him.

The 28-year-old looked set to depart from the Emirates last summer after being told he could leave the club by former boss Unai Emery.

However, since Mikel Arteta’s arrival, the centre-back’s form has improved and he has become a regular starter for the Gunners.

Mustafi has just over a year left on his current contract and with the arrival of William Saliba next season, the German would likely face stiff competition in his position.

After coming through the youth ranks at then-Bundesliga side Hamburg, the World Cup winner is intrigued by a move back to his ‘home’ league.

‘In the current situation, it is difficult to predict how the transfer phase will go,’ Mustafi told Sport Bild when quizzed about his future.

‘The Bundesliga is always interesting for me.

‘In terms of sport, it has achieved a great development. It’s also my home.’

The Bundesliga was Europe’s first major league to return after months without any football due to the coronavirus crisis.

The Premier League is set to recommence later this week and Mustafi believes the English top-tier will have learned a lot from their German counterparts.

‘Many are amazed at the level there.

‘In England, they were very surprised at how well the Bundesliga managed to restart.

‘The Premier League has certainly taken this as an example.’
