Bukayo Saka says he will continue living his dream after finally signing a new long-term contract with Arsenal and thanks former coach Unai Emery for handing him his debut.

After joining the club’s academy at the age of eight, Saka was given his chance in the first team by the Spaniard last season, while his good work has continued this term under his successor Mikel Arteta.

The 18-year-old was locked in negotiations for months with the Gunners over a new deal and was linked with a move away from the Emirates as his previous contract was originally set to expire in the summer of 2021.

Saka has been a revelation in his breakthrough season and a shining light in what has otherwise been a poor campaign for the Gunners.

The England youth international played in multiple positions across the season, proving his worth in the first team and was full of praise for all of his coaches, including Emery.

‘For starters, I just want to say I have to mention Unai Emery for the amount he believed in me, the opportunity he gave me, I’ll forever be grateful,’ Saka said.

‘And then of course, Freddie Ljungberg, who has always gone out of his way to advise me and make sure I’m improving every day.

‘These are the coaches I’ve played under before, but Mikel, he’s just amazing you know.

‘He manages to give so much detail, while at the same time being so clear. It’s just amazing to have such a great coach.

‘The future looks bright, and that’s why I’m happy to be here.’

In a post on his Instagram page, Saka revealed his delight at finally sealing a long-term deal to remain at the club.

‘London is my home. Arsenal my team. That’s why I’m so happy to finally announce my contract extension,’ he said.

‘I love playing for this club and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.

‘The hard work continues so I can continue living my dream. God is Great!!’
