Joe Willock hopes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will stay at Arsenal and insists the captain ‘looks happy’ at the north London club.

The 31-year-old has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract at the Emirates and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Speaking after the Gunners’ 2-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City on Saturday, Mikel Arteta admitted his top scorer ‘sounds pretty convinced’ of the project underway at Arsenal.

And when discussing Aubameyang’s future, midfielder Willock reiterated his desire for the Gabon international to remain at the club.

‘Obviously, everyone knows he’s an amazing guy, not only is he our captain, he’s a massive, massive player for us,’ Willock told The Beautiful Game podcast.

‘I don’t really know what’s going on with that stuff [the contract situation], but, I love to play with him.

‘As I said, he’s an amazing guy and hopefully he’ll stay at the club and I can learn from him even more.’

And when asked if he’s content at the club, Willock laughed and replied: ‘He looks happy’.

Aubameyang’s brace against City took his tally to 25 goals in all competitions this season and booked Arsenal’s place in the FA Cup final.

The Gunners will play either Chelsea or Manchester United, who contest the other semi-final on Sunday.
