Arsenal look set to be without Mesut Ozil yet again when they take on Liverpool on Wednesday night, with the German still struggling with ‘back soreness’.

The Gunners’ hopes of qualifying for Europe next season were dealt a significant blow on Sunday when they forfeited the lead in the north London and lost 2-1 against rivals Tottenham.

Next up, Arsenal host Premier League champions Liverpool at the Emirates with Jurgen Klopp’s side in need of maximum points as they go in search of the points and wins record for a season.

Mikel Arteta has no new injuries to contend with for Wednesday night’s clash, though Ozil – who is yet to feature at all for Arsenal since the restart – is still a doubt.

An update from the club confirmed that the German was ‘being assessed ahead of Liverpool following back soreness’.

Ozil has failed to even make the matchday squad for Arsenal’s last four Premier League outings, while he was an unused substitute against Brighton and Southampton.

Elsewhere, Eddie Nketiah is serving the second game of his three-match suspension while Arsenal also provided updates on the recoveries of a number of important first-team players.

Goalkeeper Bernd Leno is ‘progressing very well in recovery’ and ‘aiming to return to full training before the end of the season’.

Centre-back Pablo Mari ‘had a successful procedure to the [ankle ligament injury sustained against Manchester City] and is now in the early stages of his recovery, aiming to return to full training in September’.

Wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli, meanwhile, had ‘successful arthroscopic procedure undertaken to repair a lesion in the cartilage of the left knee’ but will not return to action until next season.
