Former England striker Michael Owen is predicting an all-Manchester FA Cup final this year, with Arsenal and Chelsea set to miss out on the Wembley showpiece.

The Gunners are the most successful team in the history of the competition after lifting the trophy 13 times and Mikel Arteta’s side face holders Manchester City in the opening semi-final on Saturday evening.

Manchester United take on Chelsea in Sunday’s heavyweight encounter and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will be confident of victory after extending their unbeaten streak to 19 matches with a win over Crystal Palace last night.

Arsenal (2016/17) and Chelsea (2017/18) are the two most recent FA Cup winners before City’s triumph in May 2019, but Owen expects their journeys to come to an end over the next couple of days.

Discussing the first semi-final in his Bet Victor column, Owen said: ‘With second place in the Premier League secured, City are now focusing on both the Champions League and FA Cup.

‘They come in to this match on the back of a win against Bournemouth in the Premier League, albeit with an under-par performance.

‘However, they will undoubtedly have had half an eye on this fixture and should be full of confidence given that they’ve beaten Arsenal in their last seven meetings.

‘Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has won the FA Cup twice as a player and was part of the backroom staff at Manchester City when they listed the trophy last season.

‘He will no doubt be desperate to see his Arsenal team win it in his first year at the helm.

‘The Gunners will have been buoyed by their win against Liverpool last time out but with their form being somewhat inconsistent since the restart and with their recent poor record against the Citizens, I fancy City to win this one.’

On Saturday’s clash, Owen said: ‘Two teams battling out in the Premier League for a Champions League qualification spot go head-to-head.

‘As players, these two managers have won this competition six times between them, Frank Lampard having won it four times and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer twice. Both managers know what it takes and how important this competition is.

‘Manchester United have won all three meetings against Chelsea this season by an aggregate of eight goals to one and are going in to this match unbeaten in 19 games in all competitions.

‘Chelsea narrowly beat Norwich in the Premier League last time out, but Frank Lampard will be hoping for more from his men on Sunday.

‘United knocked Chelsea out of this competition in the fifth-round last season and I think they are going to do it all over again at the semi-final stage this time around.

‘I am going for a 3-1 victory to Manchester United, thereby setting up a mouth-watering showdown between the two Manchester clubs in the FA Cup final.’
