Tottenham have turned down the opportunity to sign Aaron Ramsey in a swap deal which would have seen Tanguy Ndombele move in the opposite direction.

The Italian champions, according to the Daily Telegraph, expressed an interest in Spurs’ record signing who has struggled to win the confidence of Jose Mourinho.

Despite a reported bust-up with Mauricio Pochettino’s successor following last month’s draw against Manchester United, where he was an unused substitute, the former Lyon star is still said to be part of Mourinho’s long-term plans.

Ramsey, meanwhile, who joined Juventus on a free transfer from Arsenal last summer, has found his maiden season in Italy similarly hardgoing.

Injuries have stunted the Wales international’s progress, while he has also found it tough to adapt to the tactical demands of is new manager Maurizio Sarri.

Earlier this week Juventus confirmed the signing of Arthurs Melo from Barcelona and are prepared to listen to offers for Ramsey, despite Miralem Pjanic’s departure to the Spanish giants.

Tottenham, however, are said to have no interest in player who spent 12 years at north London rivals Arsenal and scored the winning goal in two FA Cup finals.

Ndombele, meanwhile, made his first appearance since Project Restart as a second half substitute in last night’s 3-1 defeat at Sheffield United which all but ended Tottenham’s hopes of Champions League qualification.

‘It’s very very difficult to dream of the Champions League and it will be a very, very difficult, tough fight with other clubs like Sheffield (United), Arsenal, Everton and lots of clubs that are going to fight for the Europa League spots,’ Mourinho conceded afterwards.
