Arsenal are set to continue their summer recruitment drive by adding Tottenham reject Jonathan Dinzeyi to their Under-23 squad.

The 20-year-old central defender was released by Spurs last month having failed to make a single first team appearance for Arsenal’s north London rivals.

Dinzeyi has been capped at England Under-18 level but failed to make the grade under Mauricio Pochettino or Jose Mourinho.

According to The Athletic, Dinzeyi’s arrival will accelerate Arsenal’s plans to strengthen their Under-23 side which has been weakened by the loan departures of Matt Smith and Zech Medley already this month.

The Gunners have already completed deals for free agent George Lewis and Tim Akinola at a minimal cost this summer and are hopeful that such signings could generate a profit in the future should they fail to make the grade at first team level.

Dinzeyi started his career as a winger before he was converted into a central defender and had a trial at QPR last season before returning to Spurs where he remained until his contract expired.

Arsenal’s academy set-up has undergone dramatic changes over the course of the last 12 months with Per Mertesacker and technical director Edu playing a major role in overseeing a seismic overhaul.

Steve Morrow, who had been the club’s head of youth scouting, was a major casualty of the changes which date back to November and further backroom alterations are set to be made in the coming months as Arsenal continue to look to streamline their business.

At first team level, meanwhile, Arsenal are hoping to announce that captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has signed a contract extension in the coming days, ending months of speculation over his future.

Arsenal have already added Willian to their first team squad and are hopeful of completing a deal for his compatriot Gabriel Magalhaes in the coming days.

Lille have already confirmed the 22-year-old is set to leave the Ligue 1 club this summer and the central defender faces a straight choice between Napoli and Arsenal.
