Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone is fearful of losing star players Thomas Partey and Jan Oblak this summer, according to reports.

27-year-old Partey has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, who are looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of next season.

The Ghana international is believed to be keen on a switch to the north London club, but the Gunners may need to raise funds to afford his €50 million (£45m) release clause.

Meanwhile, Frank Lampard is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to replace the faltering Kepa Arrizabalaga following a string of high-profile errors last season.

Oblak has been mooted as a possible replacement, however, Atletico are demanding his €120 million (£108m) buy-out clause be paid out in full.

The Blues have already splashed out on Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, with a move for Kai Havertz in the works.

According to ESPN, Simeone worries that Partey and Oblak will depart from the Wanda Metropolitano if interested parties can meet their respective release clauses.

However, their stance could be changed by a substantial cash offer or fair player swap.

If Partey moves to Arsenal, he would be swapping a club that regularly plays in the Champions League for one that hasn’t been in the competition since the 2016/17 campaign.

The midfielder’s international coach, CK Akonnor, advised him to stick with Atletico for the good of his career.

‘Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football. His position is guaranteed and he will always play,’ Akonnor told Starr FM.

‘With Arsenal, I’m not too sure. Arsenal fans will kill me [for saying he should not join the Gunners].

‘I hope that, and I’m sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay.’
