Chris Sutton accuses Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of ‘cheating’ in FA Cup final vs Chelsea

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is fouled by Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta for the Arsenal penalty during the FA Cup Final match between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on August 01, 2020 in London, England. Football Stadiums around Europe remain empty due to the Coronavirus Pandemic as Government social distancing laws prohibit fans inside venues resulting in all fixtures being played behind closed doors.

Chris Sutton accused Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of ‘cheating’ after he claimed the Arsenal striker ‘dived’ to win a penalty against Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

Aubameyang got in behind Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta, went down in the box before picking himself up off the turf to slot past Willy Caballero to level up proceedings after Christian Pulisic’s opener.

There were question marks over whether Azpilicueta, who was booked, could have been sent off – although Antonio Rudiger was covering – but Sutton, the former Chelsea striker, is convinced it wasn’t a foul at all.

And he believes the Gabon international conned the referee.

‘Let’s not mess around,’ Sutton told BBC Five Live. ‘It was a dive [for the penalty]. It’s cheating.’

He added: ‘There is a little pull. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang knows what he is doing.

‘There is the slightest contact. He has bought that penalty!’

Rob Green, the former Chelsea goalkeeper, felt there was enough to award a penalty.

‘Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang has got the wrong side of Cesar Azpilicueta for the penalty,’ he added.

‘I’ve seen it a number of times. He waits until he is inside the box before he goes down.

‘It was clever play. There was enough in it to give it.’
