Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang picked up where he left off at Wembley, scoring another stunning goal, this time against Premier League champions Liverpool.

The Arsenal captain played the lead role in his side’s FA Cup triumph earlier this month, scoring twice against both Manchester City and Chelsea as the Gunners’ season ended with some unlikely silverware.

Aubameyang is expected to sign a new deal and commit his future to Mikel Arteta’s side, but is yet to sign on the dotted line.

The 31-year-old again underlined his importance to the club with a stunning opener, collecting Bukayo Saka’s pass and bending a superb shot beyond Alisson Becker from the edge of the penalty area.

Aubameyang celebrated with a tribute to Chadwick Boseman, the Hollywood actor whose tragic death was confirmed earlier on Saturday, and the goal was also received well in Spain by his erstwhile team-mate Dani Ceballos.

The Spaniard spent last season on loan at Arsenal and although Mikel Arteta is hoping his compatriot will return again from Real Madrid, Real Betis have emerged as the frontrunners.

Ceballos, whose influence at Arsenal grew towards the end of last season, was clearly impressed with Aubameyang’s efforts, responding to a clip of a well worked goal with a string of emojis.

Meanwhile, speaking about the prospect of Ceballos returning to north London again, Arteta said earlier this week: ‘Well, we have had some talks and Dani knows really well what I think about him.

‘He was pretty clear with me as well that his intention was to remain with us, but obviously Real Madrid is involved and I don’t know yet what they want to do with the player.

‘But he’s a player that we are interested in because we really saw, in the last few months of the season, what he is capable of bringing to us.’
