Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar prefers a move to Juventus ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, according to reports.

The 22-year-old helped fire Lyon to latter stages of the Champions League, recording impressive victories over Juventus and City, before they were beaten 3-0 by German champions Bayern Munich in the semi-final.

Aouar is highly rated in France as a midfield technician and has attracted the attention of a whole host of top European clubs.

Le 10 Sport claim that Juventus are his first choice above Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Turin club have been keen on recruiting the Frenchman for over a year which could put them in a strong position should a bidding war ensue.

According to L’Equipe, Arsenal’s technical director Edu called his Lyon counterpart Juninho to discuss a player-plus-cash offer involving Matteo Guendouzi, and talks are currently ongoing between the two parties.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand rates Aouar highly and sees a likeness to former Gunners winger Samir Nasri.

‘He [Aouar] provides the creativity in this team,’ Ferdinand told BT Sport before Lyon’s defeat to Bayern.

‘A kid so young but he’s relied upon so much. That shows the belief they’ve got in him and the belief he has in himself.

‘You see his imagination and the pictures he creates and sees on the pitch, the vision and the tactical awareness. The confidence is what exudes out of this boy.

‘He’s a fabulous player to watch. He drives past people and then it’s about decision-making and the timing of the pass.

‘He has it all. He reminds me of [former Arsenal and Manchester City star] Samir Nasri at times. ‘He’s someone who can be a top player at one of the top clubs in Europe.’
