Tony Cascarino slams Mesut Ozil for not seeking a move away from Arsenal

Former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino says if Mesut Ozil really loves Arsenal like he claims to, he should move away from the club.

The German didn’t feature once for the Gunners after the restart and Mikel Arteta refused to give a definite explanation as to why that was, cryptically insisting that he only wants players ‘on the boat’.

Ozil has less than 12 months remaining on his £350,000-a-week contract at the Emirates and the club reportedly want to offload him this summer.

In an explosive interview with The Athletic earlier this week, the 31-year-old explained his stance on his future, confirming that he plans to see out the remainder of his deal.

‘My position is clear,’ Ozil said. ‘I’m here through to the last day of our agreement and I’ll give everything I have for this club.

‘Situations like these will never break me, they only make me stronger.

‘Things have obviously been difficult but I love Arsenal, I love to work there, I love the people in the club — the real people, those I’ve been with for a long time — and I love London, it’s my home.’

Cascarino claims that if Ozil loves the club and understands he is not in Mikel Arteta’s plans for next season, he should be looking to secure a transfer away.

‘I don’t like it at all when I hear comments that he loves this club and he’d love to stay to the last day of his contract,’ the former Republic of Ireland international told talkSPORT.

‘If you’re not playing, you’re early thirties, a World Cup winner and achieved quite a lot as a player at Real Madrid and at Arsenal and you’re not in the team, the manager quite clearly is not wanting you to be part of the next season, two seasons, there’s obviously something seriously wrong.

‘He should be making sure, if he loves Arsenal that much and he knows the manager, he knows he’s not wanted by him, he should be wanting to leave the club. Go and do a deal.

‘Ozil can go and find somewhere, but he has to be prepared to lose money financially.

‘It’s a bit like Gareth Bale, if you’re going to make your career decisions just based on money, I find that really strange.’
