New Manchester United signed Donny van de Beek has revealed what Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp ‘keeps telling’ him about the Premier League.

Van de Beek, 23, became Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first summer signing on Wednesday after Manchester United agreed a £40million transfer deal with Ajax.

The Netherlands international scored 41 goals in 175 appearances for the Dutch club and will hope to continue to impress in the unfamiliar surroundings of the Premier League.

Van de Beek is not short of supportive and positive role models and has revealed Arsenal icon Bergkamp – who is the father of his partner Estelle – has been in touch to discuss what he should expect from English football.

Bergkamp spent over a decade at Arsenal, establishing himself as one of the club’s greatest-ever players and starring in three Premier League title wins and three FA Cup triumphs.

‘My father in law Dennis Bergkamp obviously played for another club, but he’s a legend in England and knows exactly how it all goes in the Premier League,’ Van de Beek told De Telegraaf.

‘He keeps telling me that it’s incredibly fun and also very tough to play there. I’m going to prepare myself for that.’

Van de Beek will bring quality and competition to a Manchester United midfield which already contains Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

Asked about his latest signing, Red Devils boss Solskjaer said: ‘Donny has all of the technical attributes needed to perform in this team and has the personality required to succeed at Manchester United.

‘His ability to see space, time his movements and read the game will really complement the qualities that we have in midfield and his arrival really strengthens the depth of talent we have in that position.’

Van de Beek, meanwhile, said: ‘I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history.

‘I am now ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level and there is no higher standard than Manchester United.

‘Having spoken to the manager about his vision for this team, the direction that the club is going in is hugely exciting and I cannot wait to be a part of that.’
