Arsene Wenger revealed he was offered the Manchester United manager job – although he would not lift the lid on exactly when.

Wenger managed Arsenal for 22 years but left the club in 2018, having won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups.

He is unsure if he will return to management again but he admitted he has been offered some of the biggest jobs in world football.

‘I was offered that job a few times,’ he told The Times of the Paris Saint-Germain post.

He also received offers from Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and the French national team.

Asked if he was offered the Manchester United job, he replied: ‘Yes.’

Asked when, he smiled: ‘I don’t tell you that.

‘But I can tell you Man Utd offered me the job. I don’t tell you that [when].’

He had a great rivalry with fellow managerial great Sir Alex Ferguson and revealed the pair are still in touch to this day.

Asked if he was in touch with many current managers, Wenger added: ‘These people are all very busy. I’m not close enough to them… except Ferguson, yes.

‘I have Ferguson’s number, yes. We have a lot of respect for each other now.

‘We had a period when it was very tough, very hot. After you’re not competing any more, everyone becomes a bit more objective.’
