Mesut Ozil has told Matteo Guendouzi he will be ‘missed’ at Arsenal and has told the wayward to star to show his doubters what a ‘great footballer’ following confirmation of his loan move to Hertha Berlin.

Both players have been frozen out by Mikel Arteta and have not featured at all this season for an Arsenal side that are displaying rapid signs of progress under their new manager.

Guendouzi hasn’t played for Arsenal since he clashed with and taunted Brighton’s Neal Maupay during a damaging defeat back in June and although he returned to first team training this summer he has been deemed surplus to requirements by his manager.

The 21-year-old, who made a hugely encouraging start to his Arsenal career following a £7million move from Lorient two years ago, will now look to relaunch his career in the Bundesliga where he will spend the next nine months.

Wishing his fellow Arsenal exile well on Instagram, Ozil wrote: ‘Mi Bebee, all the best for you in Germany. Show them that you’re a great football player. Will miss you here bro.’

Hertha will not pay a fee for Gendouzi, but will foot 100% per cent of his salary, while Arsenal have also agreed a deal worth £900,000 that will see teenage defender Omar Rekik move in the opposite direction.
