Stewart Robson says new Arsenal signing Thomas Partey can do ‘every job’ well in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

The Gunners completed a deadline day deal for the 27-year-old, activating his £45 million release clause.

Partey spent five seasons in Atletico Madrid’s first team, helping fire Diego Simeone’s side to a Champions League semi-final in 2015-16, as well as a third-placed finish in La Liga last season.

The combative midfielder will provide some much-needed steel in the middle of the park for the north London club, and former Gunners midfielder Robson believes Partey is the full package and is a big upgrade on what they already have.

‘With him they’re a much better midfield, that was one area I was still worried about,’ Robson told ESPN FC.

‘[Mohamed] Elneny coming back out of the cold, I’m not sure he gives them quite enough. [Granit] Xhaka is always going to make a mistake and be ill-disciplined at times and [Dani] Ceballos I don’t think is particularly good defensively.

‘With Partey coming in that central midfield position he can do every job you want from a midfield player.

‘He’s dynamic enough to win the ball back, he’s dynamic enough with his passing and he’ll run forward as well, so, a good signing for Arsenal.’
