Kevin Campbell says Arsenal summer signing Gabriel has proven to be ‘an absolute steal’ at just £27million after a promising start to his Gunners career.

The 22-year-old joined the north London club from Lille back in September and has slotted seamlessly into Mikel Arteta’s backline.

Arsenal currently have the best defensive record in the Premier League with only seven goals conceded so far, despite already going away to Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Gabriel once again put in a solid defensive display as Arteta’s side pulled off an impressive 1-0 win over the Red Devils on Sunday.

And Gunners hero Campbell believes his former side did excellent business in recruiting the centre-back for just £27m.

‘Finally, Arsenal have got a centre-back who wants to defend, who likes to defend,’ Campbell told Football Insider.

‘You see Gabriel back there and he is making the players around him better. That is the sign of a top-class player.

‘He is powerful, quick, strong, good on the ball and good in the air – Arsenal stole him for that price!

‘That is an absolute steal because he is only going to get better. A very strong player that is only in his 20s. A signing that has hit the ground running straight away.’

Arsenal continue their Europa League campaign against Molde at the Emirates on Thursday night.

The Gunners have won their opening two games in Europe and will be looking to edge closer to qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.
