Dominik Szoboszlai’s agent has rubbished speculation that the Red Bull Salzburg star has agreed a deal to join Leipzig.

The 20-year-old is fast making a name for himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in European football and is firmly on the radar of a host of top clubs after impressing in the Austrian Bundesliga over the last two seasons.

Rumours have been circling that Arsenal are eyeing a bid for Szoboszlai, with Mikel Arteta keen to bring an attacking midfielder to the Emirates after missing out on Lyon’s Houssem Aouar in the summer transfer window.

However, German publication Sport Bild claimed this week that the Salzburg sensation had reached an agreement with sister club Leipzig and that a future move was just a formality.

The report appeared to suggest that Arsenal’s hopes of landing Szoboszlai were dead in the water but the transfer saga has taken a fresh twist, with the Hungarian’s representative, Matyas Esterhazy, denying that any deal has been struck with Leipzig.

‘Dominik Szoboszlai has no agreement with Leipzig or any other club, except of course his current club Red Bull Salzburg,’ he told Hungarian outlet Index.

Though Salzburg are in no rush to part with Szoboszlai, it’s understood the Hungary international could be available for as little as €20million (£17.9m) plus add-ons.

The Gunners are also believed to have revived their interest in Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku, who was a target for the north London club last year when Unai Emery was still in charge.

Szoboszlai would be a far cheaper alternative to Nkunku, with Leipzig demanding a fee in excess of €40m (£35m) for the Frenchman.
