Tony Adams says Arsenal pair Rob Holding and Gabriel could potentially form one of best centre-back partnerships in the Premier League.

The defensive duo have started four Premier League games together this season, including the Gunners’ last two outings against Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Holding and Gabriel were solid as Mikel Arteta’s side registered an impressive 1-0 victory away at Old Trafford, but couldn’t stop Arsenal being put to the sword by Villa in a 3-0 defeat at the Emirates on Sunday.

Summer signing Gabriel has been a revelation since joining the club from Lille in a deal worth £27million back in the summer.

The Brazilian’s aerial dominance and tenacity has been key to Arsenal’s defensive improvement this season.

Meanwhile, Arteta made a late decision to stop Holding leaving the Emirates on loan in the last transfer window, and has rewarded the 25-year-old with eight appearances in all competitions.

And Gunners icon Adams feels Holding and Gabriel have got the right traits to form a solid partnership at the back.

‘It’s got the potential to be one of the best partnerships in the league,’ Adams told Sky Sports

‘Rob has had problems with injury but I think they’ve got the athleticism, they’ve got the strength, they’ve got the commitment.

‘I think they just need to be worked with on a regular basis.’

Arsenal’s latest defeat means they go into the international break in 11th place in the Premier League table.

Their next game is not until November 22 when they take on Leeds United at Elland Road.
