David Luiz reportedly hit Arsenal team-mate Dani Ceballos in a shocking training ground bust-up during the international break and staff had to step in to diffuse the fight.

Brazilian defender Luiz and Spanish midfielder Ceballos were among the group of Arsenal players who were not away on international duty and therefore continued training under Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners boss organised a practice match last Friday but he would have been less than impressed with two of his player’s behaviour as Luiz and Ceballos clashed.

The Athletic say Luiz was irritated by a challenge from Ceballos and retaliated by hitting the Spaniard in the face, drawing some blood.

It is claimed Luiz struck Ceballos on the nose, sending the Arsenal midfielder to the ground, before other players and staff were forced to intervene as Ceballos got up to confront Luiz.

The duo were promptly sent home and Arteta oversaw their reunion on Tuesday when they cleared the air in the dressing room and apologised to the squad.

Ceballos is spending his second season on loan at Arsenal from Real Madrid, while Luiz joined the Gunners in 2019 from London rivals Chelsea.

Earlier in the season, the notoriously feisty Ceballos clashed with young Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah ahead of a Premier League match against Fulham.

Arteta later played down the incident but admitted he was ‘surprised’ to see two of his players scrapping during a warm-up.

The Gunners boss will hope the latest scuffle does not disrupt his team as they prepare to face newly-promoted Leeds United this week.
