Mikel Arteta has praised Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes following Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty in the second half was enough to secure victory for the Gunners at Old Trafford.

Both Partey and Gabriel played a key role in Arsenal’s solid display, while after the match, Roy Keane even claimed that he wished United had signed the Ghana international instead.

Asked about Partey’s performance after the game, Arteta replied: ‘He was really good. I wouldn’t like to go to individuals because they all contributed a lot.

‘It was really hard and it’s getting harder and harder to pick a team. I know whoever I pick they are ready, they are giving absolutely everything and they play with a lot of courage.

‘And it doesn’t matter wherever we go, this is a massive factor for me, they play with no fear and believe in our style of play.’

Asked if he expected Partey and Gabriel to impress so quickly, Arteta said: ‘Well, no, because I know how tough this league is and you cannot compare it with any other league in the world.

‘But we’re trying to pick certain characteristics and qualities in the profile of player we want at our club.

‘And we want to minimise the risk by looking and making sure they are going to contribute to what we are trying to do as a team and certainly this is what we need to integrate well.’

Arteta also praised Aubameyang after he stepped up to convert Arsenal’s penalty.

‘He probably had added pressure because he know how crucial it was for us to win today and how important that moment was,’ said the Arsenal manager.

‘But I think he took it really well and I’m really happy for him because he might not have been scoring, but he’s working really hard and contributing to the team. He’s doing every other thing and today he got his reward.’
