Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says that Willian has been ‘dealt with’ after the Brazilian made a trip to Dubai during the international break which appeared to flaunt lockdown restrictions.

The 32-year-old was not involved in the Brazil squad and chose to fly to Dubai, something the club wasn’t aware of, but came to light when he posted a picture with Salt Bae on Instagram after visiting his Nusr-Et steakhouse.

Willian claims that it was a business trip so does not break coronavirus restrictions, which state: ‘travelling away from home, including internationally, is restricted from England except in limited circumstances such as for work or education’.

Anyone returning to the UK from the UAE does not have to go into isolation but Willian must provide a negative Covid-19 test result before returning to training.

Arteta says the matter is dealt with and they are moving on, which suggests he has provided a negative test result ahead of Sunday’s trip to Leeds.

‘You keep asking me for more and more issues. Whatever happens internally with any issues or things that we don’t expect, as always we will try to resolve them internally. That’s been dealt with and explained, and we move on,’ said the Spaniard.

‘We had a conversation and I explained what I expected.

‘There are a lot of personal factors at the moment and as well from our side, we need to be in their shoes.

‘A lot of players are having different issues, like any person out there and sometimes they make decisions based on the needs of the moment, or what people are expecting from them.

‘Whether they are right or wrong, it’s a thing that we have to discuss. But it’s been dealt with in the right way so let’s move on.’

Arsenal travel to take on Leeds in the 4.30pm kick-off on Sunday and Arteta will be without Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac, after both tested positive for coronavirus during the international break.
