Mikel Arteta urged to re-sign Jack Wilshere for Arsenal by Darren Bent

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has urged Mikel Arteta to re-sign Jack Wilshere for Arsenal.

Wilshere is currently without a club after leaving West Ham in the summer and would be available on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old came through Arsenal’s academy and won two FA Cup trophies during his time at the club before leaving for West Ham in 2018.

And Bent, who supports Arsenal, believes Wilshere would add some much-needed creativity to Arsenal’s midfield and feels a pay-as-you-play deal would be a sensible move for the midfielder.

‘I hope he does return,’ Bent told talkSPORT.

‘Pay-as-you-play, Jack Wilshere. Why not?

‘He’s got that creativity and I know he’d be hungry to go back to Arsenal, I know how much he loves the club.

‘I’m not saying give him a normal contract, but on a pay-as-you-play, I’d take him back tomorrow.

‘He’s only 28, a pay-as-you-play deal makes sense. Get Jack Wilshere back.’

Bent has also urged Arteta to re-introduce Mesut Ozil back into Arsenal’s squad at the earliest opportunity.

‘He needs to get Ozil back involved, he needs some creativity from somewhere,’ said Bent.

‘They’ve only scored one goal from open play in how long? Aubameyang is getting isolated, not getting the opportunities – this is a guy who has won the Golden Boot and has scored a lot of goals for Arsenal in a short space of time, and now all of a sudden he’s getting no service.

‘I think Arteta needs to find a way. He’s got the defensive players there, but now he needs to find a link between them and Aubameyang.

‘For me, why not bring Ozil back into the squad?

‘You haven’t got to throw him in and start him straight away, but he needs to be in and around the squad, so he can come on and make a difference.

‘For me, I’d have him back. I don’t think it will happen, but I think it should happen.

‘He’s creative, he’s a good player and if you’re paying someone that amount of money and he’s just sitting there doing absolutely nothing, and if no one else is going to come in and buy him, you might as well use him!

‘The thing you’re lacking is creativity, you’ve got a player there that can do that.’
