Mohamed Elneny has praised Mikel Arteta’s ability to study opponents and believes his tactical instructions were key to Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

The Gunners recorded their first away win in the Premier League against United since 2006 as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s second-half penalty sealed a 1-0 victory.

Arsenal had created the better chances at Old Trafford, while United, who ran out 5-0 winners over RB Leipzig in the Champions League last week, struggled to find a way through the Gunners.

And Elneny has revealed that Arteta’s detailed analysis of United’s strengths which were on display in their wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig helped Arsenal’s players keep their opponents at bay at Old Trafford.

‘Arteta is very good at studying the opposition,’ Elneny told beIN Sports.

‘He gave us instructions on how to close down the spaces against Manchester United before the game to avoid what happened to Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig recently.

‘We are happy with the victory because we won for the first time at Old Trafford since 2006 and it comes after two consecutive losses against Manchester City and Leicester.

‘I am happier about the performance and I thank all my teammates for the level they performed at. We came here to win all three points and nothing else.

‘I am confident in my abilities, and I do not care about the identity of the opponent as much as doing the best I can and what is always required of me on the pitch.’

Arteta also praised Elneny after his impressive performance in Arsenal’s win over United.

‘What Mo transmits to the team is special, he has this energy as a person,’ said the Arsenal manager.

‘He goes in the room and he creates that atmosphere. Today I said that we needed that energy and that positive feeling that he brings all the time. I think he was tremendous.

‘Obviously I played with him so I know his qualities and who he is as a person, and what he brings to the squad. I like players that have zero ego, who play for the team, who want to contribute regardless of what it is, whether that’s one minute or 96 minutes or just by being there and giving positive feedback all the time.

‘He contributes to our culture and is a person who admired by everyone at the football club. And now I think his qualities he’s showing as a footballer, I always believed he had them.’
