Arsenal star Nicolas Pepe has apologised to his team-mates after ‘letting them down’ with a headbutt on Leeds United ace Ezgjan Alioski.

The Ivorian was sent off in the 51st minute at Elland Road after headbutting the Leeds defender, who antagonised the former Lille winger.

Arsenal were already below-par and under the cosh, but Pepe’s dismissal meant the Gunners had to dig in for a further 40 mins in Yorkshire.

Thankfully for Pepe, his team-mates managed to see out a 0-0 draw but Mikel Arteta criticised the winger’s ‘unaccpetable’ actions after the match.

Pepe clearly agrees with his manager and he took to Instagram today to apologise to his team-mates and supporters for letting the team down.

‘Yesterday I have let my team down at a crucial time of the game and there is no excuses for my behaviour,’ said Pepe.

‘I am deeply sorry and would like to apologise to the fans, my team-mates, my coach and everyone at the club.’

Pepe will miss the next three matches, ruling him out of games against Burnley, Wolves and Tottenham,

The Ivorian’s absence comes at the worst possible time for the Gunners, who are anxiously waiting to discover the extent of an injury to Bukayo Saka.

The England international came on with half an hour left at Elland Road but he was replaced in injury time following a challenge from Stuart Dallas.
