Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hit back at Real Madrid star Toni Kroos after the Germany international branded players who celebrate goals by wearing masks as ‘silly’.

The Arsenal captain idonned a Black Panther mask after scoring in a Europa League tie against Rennes last year, while he also wore a spiderman mask during his time with Borussia Dortmund earlier in his career.

Explaining his reason for wearing part of the costume made famous by actor Chadwick Boseman, who died earlier this year, Aubameyang said at the time: ‘I needed a mask which could represent me. It’s Black Panther. In Gabon the national team are the panthers. It represents me.’

Kroos, however, is not a fan of pre-planned goal celebration routines and made his views on the subject clear on Wednesday, telling his Einfach mal Luppen podcast: ‘If there are rehearsed dances or choreographies, I find it silly.

‘Celebrating with masks, that’s where it ends for me. I don’t think that’s a good role model either. What nonsense.’

Aubameyang, however, has taken issue with the former Bayern Munich star’s comments and revealed he intends to celebrate by donning a mask in the future.

He tweeted: ‘By the way, does this Ton iKroos have kids? Just to remember I did it for my son few times and I will do it again.

‘I wish you have kids one day and make them happy like this Junior School pupils and don’t Forget #maskon #staysafe.’

Aubameyang has had little opportunity to don a mask in celebration this season given his struggles in front of goal. The 31-year-old, who signed a new long-term contract in the summer, has scored only once from open play in the Premier League this season.
