Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed midfielder Thomas Parety will miss the side’s ‘next few games’ as the thigh injury he sustained is worse than first feared.

The Ghanaian, a £45m arrival from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer, was subbed at half-time in a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa in early November.

The midfielder had been hopeful that he’d recover from his thigh injury in order to return after the international break but the problem is worse than the club first feared.

Partey missed Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves and Arteta confirmed afterwards that the midfielder will miss the next few games at a minimum.

‘He had an injury very early in the game, he wanted to continue the second half,’ Arteta told reporters.

‘We knew it was a significant injury. He’s done very well and he’s working very hard, he wants to be available.

‘Hopefully we can get him back soon but it’s an area we need to be careful and we need to be protective with the player.

‘I don’t think he will be with us in the next few games.’

Partey is therefore certain to miss next Sunday’s game against arch rivals Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho’s side went top of the league table with a 0-0 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before Arsenal’s defeat later in the day.

The Gunners’ loss means the club have made their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.
